Ardbeg

Ardbeg Distillery was founded in 1815 in Ardbeg, Islay, Scotland by John Macdougall. It is currently owned by The Glenmorangie Company, a subsidiary of Moët Hennessy. Ardbeg has had a turbulent past with several closures and changes in ownership, but has now established itself as one of the leading Islay distilleries. Ardbeg uses traditional copper pot stills, malted barley, and mainly ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks in the whiskey-making process. One notable fact about Ardbeg is that it is known for its heavily peated whiskies, which have won many awards and accolades for their bold, smoky flavors.
